The road construction works on Róna Street in Újpest have been completed.

19.08.2022

The comprehensive renovation of Róna Street in Újpest has been completed, carried out by our Central Hungarian Chief Engineering Department.

The works affected a road section approximately 1200 meters long and began last September. The project was realized within the framework of Budapest's road renovation program for 2020-2023, commissioned by Budapest Közút Zrt.
The process was divided into three phases, and the colleagues worked in a total of 6 stages while maintaining continuous traffic flow.
On the two-lane roadway, the asphalt surface was milled to a thickness of 8 centimeters, followed by the construction of two layers of asphalt pavement.

“The curbs, driveways, and sidewalk connections had to be completely rebuilt along the entire section. We renovated the sidewalk sections around the trolleybus stops to full width, and the pedestrian crossings were designed to be accessible with the incorporation of tactile signals. We replaced the asphalt wearing course on the surface of the 45-degree angled parking lots located between Erzsébet Queen Road and Bácskai Street. During the curb corrections (due to the widening of the roadway), we replaced the entire pavement structure. Parking prevention tabs were built in the outer parking lanes” - stated construction manager Kristóf Pál to Magyar Építők.

During the project, perhaps the biggest challenge was the operation of the trolleybuses, as asphalt work could only be done at night, during the time between the last and first services. It was also necessary to ensure access to Uzsoki Hospital and parking spaces throughout the entire construction period.
Thanks to the cooperative attitude of the parties, every emerging problem was successfully resolved.
