Renovation work has also begun at both end stations of the central section.
The Lehel Square station was taken over as a work site a month ago, where the demolition of stone pavements is currently taking place. In parallel, the installation of the steel structure for the elevators is happening, as well as one of the most important work phases, the asbestos removal. After this work phase is completed, the dismantling of the electrical cables will follow. Above the spacious station, a special fire protection structure made of steel, known as the smoke curtain wall, will also be constructed. This special device will direct smoke towards the ventilation duct in the event of a fire.
The first partial work area at Nagyvárad Square was already taken over by colleagues in January 2021: this was a work area of approximately 1,115 square meters, temporarily closed off from passenger traffic at the underpass level. Thanks to this, various demolition and masonry works could already begin earlier. Subsequently, the masonry work for the new ventilation duct started in the closed area.
In the past month and a half, the station demolition work has significantly accelerated: part of the granite pavement on the platform has been demolished, the remaining quartzite flooring at the underpass level, the cladding of the pillars on both levels (plastering of these has also begun), the steel-structured staircase in the passenger area, the Glasal cladding, and the reinforced concrete side wall of the designated surface lift have all been removed.
Additionally, the track area injections have been completed, and the construction of the newly built reinforced concrete staircase and the setup of the ÁDI room group has begun.
